Boston blackout and tiny living spaces

I unexpectedly had the day off of work today due to a power outage in the Back Bay area of Boston, which is where I work. There was a transformer fire and the power has been off in the area since last night. I slept in, watched some tv and cleaned out my closet, which I've been meaning to do for a while now.

I then got sucked into watching videos and reading up on tiny houses and apartments online. I live in a studio and often complain about needing more space but now I feel silly complaining. I just need to make better use of my living space. I've been on tinyhousetalk.com all day. I'm really fascinated by how much use people can get out of small spaces.

Less is more

I've decided that I need less stuff in my life.  I live in a small studio so the less stuff I have the better.  I'm tackling the biggest collector of crap first - my closet.  I have one closet in my studio and no other storage so when I don't have a spot for something it goes into the closet.  It's a pretty scary sight at the moment.  I know there's a floor in there somewhere.

I know, I know, it's bad.  I don't even wear half of those shoes.  I'm on a mission to see the floor again.  I took a few minutes today and went through a bag I had sitting on the floor.

These are a few of the items I found.  Vanilla Bean Noel lotion (which smells awesome by the way), some other random lotion and a talking Stewie.  This would be part of a Christmas gift I received which means it's been sitting in my closet for about 10 months.  I told you it was bad.  I also found some soap which I put in my bathroom and an old joke book that someone had given me which I tossed.  I got rid of one pair of shoes, three shirts, a pair of shorts and a pair of jeans.  It's a small start but it's a start.  Getting rid of junk feels good!

I'm going to be very soft with all of this newly found lotion.
