I should have brought more shirts

I've learned something while I was in Newport. Bring many extra shirts when handling a baby or at least my nephew. I think he was spitting up on me for fun.

Multitasking auntie wearing the same shirt two days in a row.

I love Newport Rhode Island. I haven't been there since I was 21 and I loved it just as much this time around. Look at this view that I woke up to this morning.

Not a bad view right? Even though I looked like this when my brother woke me up I did have a good morning.

Thank you Sean for this lovely moment.

The roof deck on the hotel was awesome. I need a roof deck in my life, or even a porch! City living sucks sometimes.

One of my favorite things in Newport (besides the mansions) is Cliff Walk. It was a bright sunny spring day so we decided to check it out.

CAUTION! Do not throw your children off a cliff!

These signs were all over the path. In case you couldn't tell that your were actually on a steep cliff.

I had so much fun spending time with my my brother and his family. I'll be really sad when my they go back to Louisiana.

I was singing Peal Jam to Hunter in the back seat and he was cracking up. Probably because I can't sing and because I do a weird Eddie Vedder voice. His car seat had the word "evenflo" on it which started the whole singing thing. I'm not this crazy Pearl Jam fan.

I'm heading out into the night with my cousin Alexis and the always entertaining Molly. I'm probably going to be horrified by the men out there in the world. I have no desire to flirt with bar dudes but I probably will. Good thing my ladies got my back.

20sb Blog swap

This post is part of the 20sb blog swap.  Mariel blogs over at Silly Style which is where you can find my summer themed post.  It involved wasps, throwing up and a letter from my grandmother.  I'm very jealous of Mariel's travels.  Check out her blog for beautiful photos and more travel tales.

Summer is my favorite season of the year. I’m currently living in northern Italy, so it’s usually cloudy and cold. The good thing about living here is that you get to travel to many different countries with low cost European companies, such as Ryan Air.

So this summer, my husband and I decided to go to Croatia. We had no idea of where to stay or what to do there, but we were sure we were going to have lots of fun.
We took the bus from Trieste (Italy) and moved all the way down to Zadar (Croatia). We stayed there for three days and we visited Zadar’s old town and its port. There lots of tourists, but unlike many other European cities where you can hear people speaking Spanish, English, and German, I noticed that in Zadar there were mostly English people and Eastern Europeans (Austria, Slovakia, and Poland).

After Zadar, we moved down to Split and took a ferry to Hvar (island). A soon as I saw Hvar and its coastline, I knew it was going to be hard to say goodbye to this place. Hvar has the clearest waters I’ve ever seen in my life (well, it shares first place with Formentera). You can tell Hvar is a place where the super rich like to spend their vacations, but you never feel secluded, you always feel welcomed by the locals and they are always very nice to you.

There are other small islands close to Hvar and you can visit them in one day. There are taxi boats that take you there or you can take the excursion boat, which is usually cheaper and your ticket includes a lunch.

I know many people think that this is something difficult to do and expensive as well, but I assure you anyone can visit places like this, it just takes a little planning and searching and reading all the information about the place you want to travel to (Wikipedia, Lonely Planet and the country’s official tourism site are great references). We traveled with our backpacks and a really tight budget, but we managed to eat and move around for an entire week with our few euros.

To save ourselves some money, we took the overnight ferry from Hvar to Ancona (Italy) and we slept on the deck’s floor. Many people do this because it’s cheaper and by being an overnight trip, they also save on hotels.

We then took the train from Ancona to Milan, and another one from Milan to Bergamo, which is the town we live in.

It was a very nice trip. But now, we can only think of sleeping in our own beds and not waking up till noon!

Hope you liked my summer story. I’ll post some of the photos later today, so you want to check them out. I really hope you’ll like those ones too.

Have a great day!

Mariel

The flashing lights and ringing bells

I've returned from Bloggers in Sin City.  I'm exhausted and I have swollen pinky toes but I had the best time!  I love Vegas and I love bloggers.  I feel like I need to do a separate post just for all the dancing pictures.

The AWESOME Vegas
  • The GO rooms at the Flamingo.
  • Brandy and I doing "the dragon" all weekend and the baby panda pose
  • Meeting Carly and Bob, my fellow Bostonians
  • Nico's dance moves including the misleading robot
  • Sunny pool time
  • Bottle service at Chateau Nightclub on the roof top
  • Absinthe at Cesar's Palace.  Everyone loved this show.
  • Delicious food.  Seriously, I had some amazing scallops and burgers.
  • Brandy tweeting from Nic's phone.  I love those two.
  • Cutting the line at Pure VIP style
  • Champagne and late night burgers
  • Surviving the apocalypse
The NOT SO Vegas
  • The blisters and swollen pinky toes thanks to my cute black heels.
  • The $5.00 bag of Cheetos.  I mean they were delicious but seriously Vegas?  Come on!  I'm just eating processed crunchy cheese dust here!
  • Leaving at 5:30 a.m. to fly back home.
I so learned my lesson with the heels.  I just can't rock the four inch heels.  How do you ladies do it?  I am packing flats, wedges and low heels next time.  Not worth the pain even if my shoes and legs looked good.  Blisters and swollen pinky toes are not hot.

I'm surprised that I'm only tired and not dying.  In one night I drank mixed drinks, shots, champagne, wine and beer.  There really is something in the air in Vegas.

As you can see my NOT SO list is pretty lame.  I had the best time!  Thank you so much Nicole for once again putting this all together. If you're thinking of going next year, DO IT.  You will not regret it.

    I'm ready for you Vegas

Boston has been a dreary wet mess pretty much the whole month of May.  Vegas has been the ray of light on the horizon and tomorrow I'll be there!  Bags are (mostly) packed.  Apartment is (fairly) clean.  Kitty has received many cuddles.

I should be sleeping but I'm waiting for my toenails to dry.  Fingernails did not get a complete polish change because I ran out of remover.  Girls problems are rough sometimes.

Germana is coming this year which makes the trip even more exciting.  We'll probably nerd out and read the whole time on the plane but that's how we roll.

How on earth am I going to fall asleep?!

    17 days

I can't contain my excitement for Vegas.  This morning I woke up and whispered to myself "17 days".  I am crazy and I need a vacation folks.

I've been having dreams about Vegas.  In most of them I'm hanging out with Khole Kardashian - my favorite Kardashian.  Yes I have a favorite Kardashian.  I think she would be so much fun to hang out with and maybe this is a sign that it will happen.

I'm now on a mission to find a cute cheap Vegas dress.  I'm thinking gold but I don't think gold goes well with vampire white skin.  I'm not "tanning" for a dress.  Say no to skin cancer.  And if you actually think I could tan if I wanted to.  Well aren't you sweet.

I'm like Jessie from Saved By The Bell right now.

    "I'm so excited!  I'm so excited!  I'm so.....SCARED."
