The diagnosis on my car is in. I need a new alternator. I also need $392.00. I told myself I wouldn't cry if the repair cost was under five-hundred. I've been happily watching my savings grow only to see it depleted once again. I have to remind myself that this is why I put money in my savings - so I don't use the credit cards.
I'm not an expert on cars by any means but I'm usually pretty good at deciphering what is wrong with my car. Having owned two older cars in my eleven years of driving I've experienced my fair share of car trouble.
During Easter brunch on Sunday I was telling my riveting car being towed story and I mentioned that I thought the culprit was the alternator. Big mistake. Never say out loud what you think is wrong with your car when there are men around.
"It's not the alternator. It's the battery."
"But we tried to jump the car three times and it would die after two minutes."
"It's the battery."
"The battery is only a year old."
"It's not the alternator. Trust me."
I don't mean to gloat but I'm going to. Look who was right! Just because I'm a woman doesn't mean I know nothing about cars. I will keep the gloating on the internet though. No need to wound a man's pride.
You should definitely be gloating intentionally.
