Prominent blogger leaves internet for a year. Not so prominent blogger has panic attack thinking about that.

Blogger Paul Miller has decided to give up the internet for a year. I had to grab a paper bag just reading this article. I admit to being an internet junkie. I get my fix first thing in the morning, at breaks/lunch during work and when I get home at night. I'm not going to lie and say I don't have a problem. I do! But I just can't quit you internet. You're like my gay cowboy.

Sometimes I worry about myself. When it's 4 a.m. and I check my email with one eye because my other eye is still asleep.

I've taken steps to reduce my internet usage. I make myself get off the computer and read before I go to bed. I love reading so this is a pretty easy step for me. I'm also trying to leave my phone alone if I wake up at 4 a.m. I'm trying, really I am.

But quitting the internet for a whole year? No way. Can't be done. I'd go crazy. I'm talking Miss Havisham, wedding dress, one shoe, Great Expectations crazy. No one needs to see me like that.

I'm thinking that this Paul Miller guy is doing this more for attention than as a self restraint test. But hey, he's getting attention. He's on the front page of CNN. Good luck to you Mr. Miller. I hope you take up a new hobby like stick whittling to keep you occupied.

The comments on the CNN article are priceless, as usual.

"he'll be back on in 13 days when Diablo III comes out."

"this is madness!"

"Madness? This. Is. Sparta!!!!"

  4. Well if it wasn't for blogging I probably could give up the internet for a year actually. I hope the guy does good and he doesn't come back for Diablo three. If you think you use the internet too much then go for it, and try and cut down. Not a whole year, but maybe a few hours less a day.

    1. I'm all for cutting down but a whole year? That's just crazy.

  5. I don't know which one would kill me first: no internet or no dairy products. Both are pretty important in my life. I wish that crazy man good luck.

  6. I could never, ever, EVER do it. No way. Sometimes I check Facebook three times a minute just out of habit/boredom.

WHATEVER WOULD I DO WITH MY TIME?

Probably realize I had a lot more of it, I assume.

Also, your Brokeback Mountain reference slew me. That is my absolute favorite line to laugh at.

  7. Uhhh I would be your Miss Havisham twin! I also do the one eye sleeping one eye checking my internet thing. It'll definitely make us go blind; one-eyed internet checking - the new masturbation!

  8. +me on the one eyed Internet thing. It's especially awesome because of our email chain. I always have something to read at 4am when I really want to be sleeping but I don't actually fall asleep, I look at my phone! Hooray!
