Happy half birthday to me!

Last night Derek and I went out in China town. I never really go out in China town and I don't know why. I mean they have a Chinese McDonald's. We did not eat a the Chinese McDonald's though.

Instead we ate a Chinese restaurant with an identity crisis. The decor was a mix of tiki/tropical island/Italian vineyard (fake grapevines not pictured).

The menu was strictly Chinese though which is what we came for. And I still suck at using chop sticks. It's a special treat seeing me try, especially when I'm starving and trying to shovel food in my mouth and I get like three grains of rice left on my chop sticks by the time it reaches my mouth. The food that made it to my mouth was really good.

Anybody want to see a show in Quincy? I think the Asian Kim Kardashian will be there. Too bad, this Superstar event was on July 22nd.

We wandered around the Park Street area and ended up at a bar listening to an Irish bartender's thoughts on divorce.

"I plan on having 12 marriages behind me before I hit the grave."

They had some radio station from Cork playing in the background.

We stopped by one more bar in Davis and then headed to bed. But not before I got a half birthday present!

Happy half birthday to me! I'm officially 28 and 1/2. Good thing I reminded Derek about this all last week (I did not actually ask for anything, so the roses were a complete surprise). I hate having a February birthday because half the time my birthday plans get ruined by snow. This is why I like my half birthday much better. I suggest you do this as well is you're not satisfied with your actual birthday.

  1. Half birthdays are great. Can I just say how happy I am that you're always frequenting places with Irish people in them? I feel like ONE DAY THAT WILL BE ME!! It will. Most definitely.

    1. And I can't wait! It's not too hard to find the Irish in Boston. It always makes a bar more fun though.

  3. Well I'm not too fussed about my birthday, so it would just be one more celebration I don't really care about. But I'm glad you had fun, and roses are always a nice touch :)I would not have been able to resist the temptation of Chinese McDonalds though.

  5. Oh no, a February birthday is the best because it's just when people's credit cards are starting to look a little bit better after the christmas bender but there's still stuff of sale so people can buy you a present more expensive then they normally would have but feel good about it.
You should move to Australia and have a birthday where it's like 40+ degrees (celsius) outside and you end up having a sunburnt bum (like me last year on my birthday). I think I'd much rather prefer snow.
BUT we do share birthday months so hip hip hooray!

  6. Ginny, there is an awesome new place in Chinatown called Shojo. The only way I can describe it is like a funky urban Asian speakeasy. The cocktails are amazing and the food is excellent. The food is like New American with an Asian twist. But if you're looking for something more traditional, you should check out Jade Garden. It's some of the best Cantonese food in Chinatown.

    1. Oh I'll have to try both of those. I've heard of Jade Garden but I also heard you should get reservations for that place.

  7. Dang! Why haven't I ever thought to celebrate my half birthday? You are absolutely correct: winter birthdays get ruined by snow all the time. Next year, I'm totally partying in July. Happy Half Birthday to you!! :)

  8. I feel you on the chopsticks. I have to be having a really really good day to even try with them. I usually give up and use a fork by the time I'm halfway through the meal.
